ZNPP power units will not be able to produce electricity for several years after de-occupation – expert
The plant is still connected to the unified power grid, but now it only consumes electricity. This was stated by Olha Kosharna, PhD in Chemistry, independent expert on nuclear energy and nuclear safety, former member of the SNRIU Board, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
“The plant is still connected to the Ukrainian power system. However, six power units do not produce energy, but consume it through a high-voltage line. If this line is damaged, which has already happened several times, backup diesel generators will start working at the plant. ZNPP power units will not be able to generate energy if the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam is blown up, because the power plant will not have enough water,” – Olha Kosharna noted.
She also added that in order for the plant to produce electricity again, it will take various years to check all systems, demine the plant’s territory, etc.
