Zhytomyr region gives refuge to 60,000 IDPs
Many of the internally displaced persons who currently live in Zhytomyr region see themselves as residents of this region in the future.
Vitalii Bunechko, Head of Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“We currently have more than 60,000 internally displaced persons in Zhytomyr region. They receive all the necessary aid both from the state and from international organizations. Many people have found employment and have already integrated into the society of Zhytomyr oblast, and they see themselves as residents of our region in the future,” said the Head of Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration.
He expressed confidence that internally displaced persons located in Zhytomyr region have received and are receiving all the necessary assistance intended for this category of citizens.
Vitalii Bunechko also added that at the peak there were up to 110,000 internally displaced persons in Zhytomyr region, and if necessary, the region will still be able to provide shelter to those in need.
“In case of escalation, we are ready, and we have already experienced it. Because Zhytomyr region acted as this kind of hub when the enemy bombed Borodyanka, when the north of Kyiv oblast, and people left Makariv, Borodyanka, Hostomel and stayed in Zhytomyr region. I want to say that at the highest we had up to 110,000 IDPs. We are keeping these 50,000 extra places in case of escalation in the south and east of our country,” Vitalii Bunechko explained.
