Yurii Ihnat: The overnight attack on Kyiv was an unprecedented case of the enemy using “Kinzhal” in large numbers

On the night of May 16, air defense forces repelled another enemy attack on the capital of Ukraine. In particular, during the enemy 6 Kinzhal missiles attack, which did not reach their target due to air defense intercept. Yurii Ihnat, Spokesperson of the Air Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, made the relevant report during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform. “Today, we managed to repel another air attack. Its peculiarity is definitely the “hypersonic “Kinzhal” or “Dagger” usage in large numbers, and all of them were shot down. 9 “Calibers” missiles, 6 “Daggers”, as well as 3 missiles traveled along the ballistic trajectory. 6 Shaheds and 3 operational and tactical level reconnaissance drones that were used for aerial reconnaissance on the eve of these strikes were shot down,” noted Ihnat. He also pointed out that the attack was carried out by MiG-31K fighters from the north and the east directions. The ships were attacked from the Black Sea with 9 Caliber missiles, and from the north, they were attacked with either S-400 or Iskander-M missiles flying along a ballistic trajectory. In addition, Yurii Ihnat emphasized that efforts toward air defense capabilities strengthening will be pursued. And now, according to him, we need more means to shoot down ballistic missiles.”Thanks to our Western partners and the government, we are getting powerful systems capable of targeting aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles as well as having “unparalleled in the world” “Daggers” as something possible to cope with. The only thing that is really needed is more means to shoot down ballistic missiles. According to French media reports, SAMP/T is next to deliver and may soon be used to defend our country. Like Patriot, it is also capable of fighting not only aerodynamic but also ballistic targets.”
