“We Discussed Implementation of New Sanctions against russian TV in the EU,” Minister Tkachenko Speaks about His Conversation with the Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency
Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, and Věra Jourová, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, have discussed implementing new sanctions against russian television channels in the European Union today. During his briefing at Media Center Ukraine, Tkachenko reiterated that the first step in this direction has already been made.
“I refer to the sanctions against Russia Today and the latter sanctions against Russia-24 and Russia TV channel. They broadcasted via a European satellite. However, today we have discussed the further steps involving russia’s First Channel, NTV, REN TV, and other propaganda outlets that have no place in a civilized world,” Tkachenko explained.
Věra Jourová, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, mentioned during the briefing that the situation in the media is considered in the course of work on the seventh sanctions package.
“Today’s meeting with Oleksandr Tkachenko was extremely important because he shared his vision of the situation, who is the spreader of the toxic lies, and who should appear on the sanctions list as well. I take this very seriously, we asked for more detailed information, and we are now working on the seventh sanction list. And I will see where we can go further with these media, or the so-called media; we have this reservation whether that is media or not,” Jourová added.
