Victory will be achieved when Ukrainians realize that the war will be long and join it with arms in hand – sociologist

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there has not been a single poll asking “Are you ready for a long war?” All the studies have focused on how Ukrainians perceive their victory.

This was stated by sociologist Hanna Yatvetska at a briefing at the Ukraine-Odesa Media Center.

“They usually measure the general opinion of Ukrainians: “Are you ready to continue the war?” as an example. I have not seen any polls asking “Are you ready to go to victory with arms in your hands?” Because when a person sits on a warm couch and watches the news, they don’t think about who is fighting for them, and then they are ready to “fight to victory.” For a very long time, we were fed the “counteroffensive” and that we would “drink coffee in Yalta,” so Ukrainians did not realize that the war would be long,” the sociologist said.

Hanna Yatvetska added that Ukrainians should realize that the war is already long – it has been going on since 2014 – and should think about those who are fighting with weapons in their hands, defending Ukrainian cities and villages.

“We have to think about our defenders, not to mention those who are in captivity. Our men should not run away from mobilization. We all know how corruption works and how many men have gone abroad for bribes. The war will end when all Ukrainians realize that it depends on them how long the fighting will continue. Therefore, it is important to stay the course, help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, tell people the truth and not be afraid of difficult questions,” the sociologist believes.
