Ukraine’s regaining control over ZNPP could fundamentally change the situation

Power engineers are doing everything possible to prepare in time for winter, the heating season and probable enemy shelling. At the same time, during his briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform, Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director at the Energy Industry Research Center, emphasized that the return of Ukraine’s control over the Zaporizhia NPP would prove to be the most positive case for the state.

“If we talk about the Kakhovka HPP, then it does not significantly affect the energy situation in Ukraine. On the other hand, if the ZNPP were under the control of Ukraine and fully operational within the energy grid, it would radically change the situation with generating capacities. Presumably, it could be returned into the system quite quickly, but there are certain doubts as to how this will be possible.”

Despite the fact that Ukraine still has a shortage of air defense systems, the energy industry workers are building physical barriers to help protect the system from highly probable russian attacks in the fall and winter. Of course, physical barriers are not able to withstand a direct impact of a shell, but they can provide some protection for the energy grid, Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director at the Energy Industry Research Center said at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
