Ukraine’s Ambassador to Türkiye: Türkiye gives its staunch support to a Palestinian state and sympathizes more with the Palestinian people

The focus of attention of Türkiye’s domestic and foreign policy is quite strongly drawn to the situation in Gaza, to the ongoing hostilities.

Vasyl Bodnar, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye made this statement during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform. 

“Of course, Türkiye is fully supportive of the state of Palestine and Palestinians. Therefore, in this case, there is a clear condemnation of Israel’s actions, and this determines the priorities of relations with other countries or the priorities of foreign policy at the moment. Of course, also a search for ways to resolve this situation is h underway, and there is an intensive dialog ongoing with the countries of the region, as well as with the United States,” he explained.

At the same time, he noted that Russia has made some attempts to manipulate Ukraine’s statements regarding the stance the country has taken on the conflict, and in this context, Russia has attempted to drive a wedge between Ukraine and Türkiye. However, Vasyl Bodnar noted that this matter has been settled.

“In fact, we have managed to stabilize this issue, and this situation has no negative impact on bilateral relations. But a broad shift in the world’s heavy attention away from Ukraine to the situation in Gaza has also been the case in Türkiye. And this, of course, gives us additional tasks to remind the international community about the ongoing war, to talk about the prospects for peace on Ukrainian terms and the need to attract Turkish business to support Ukraine,” emphasized Vasyl Bodnar.
