Ukraine receives certified measles vaccine from the Netherlands

Side effects of measles immunization are usually mild, but may include fever and pain or redness at the injection site. Severe allergic reactions occur in about one person in a million, and have not been reported during the vaccination campaign.

This was stated by Lyudmyla Samoilenko, Head of the Immunization Department of the Odesa Regional Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, at a briefing at the Ukraine-Odesa Media Center.

Measles vaccination began in the 1950s. The vaccine, which was certified in Ukraine in 1971, is manufactured in the Netherlands and delivered to our country in sealed containers in refrigerators.

Measles vaccination is contraindicated in pregnant women, children with immune system disorders and after surgery.

“Now the vaccine is being spent not only on catch-up vaccination, but it is being given to children according to plans. There are widespread rumors that this vaccine is dangerous. There is even a hypothesis that egg white allergy causes rejection of this vaccine. None of this is true. Contraindications for vaccination can only be in case of serious illnesses and after surgery, for example, children after transplantation or with serious immune diseases. In addition, there are rumors that you can die after vaccination – this is also untrue, there are no cases of deaths after vaccination,” said Lyudmyla Samoilenko.
