Ukraine needs at least 25 Patriot systems to protect its cities from enemy attacks
At least 25 Patriot systems are currently required to protect Ukrainian cities from enemy attacks. However, some additional means of protection are needed to cover the airspace directly on the contact line.
Ilia Yevlash, Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“The Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has already specified that 25 Patriot-type air defense systems could be enough to protect our cities from enemy attacks today. Of course, we also need many other means to cover the airspace directly at the battlefront, where our infantrymen are holding the defense lines,” he said.
In particular, he noted the need for man-portable air-defense systems that are used directly by mobile fire groups.
“Of course, this is not an exhaustive list. We also need man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems that are effectively used by mobile fire groups. We have already seen how guided and cruise missiles can be shot down with the help of skillful use of MANPADS by the servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, it is, of course, difficult to talk about a specific number, since russia has a large number of weapons and of course they continue to replenish their stocks with the help of their partners. For example, drones supplied by Iran or missiles supplied by North Korea. There is also a question about the missiles themselves, the number of these missiles and their maintenance, since engineering support is no less important in this matter,” he added.
