Ukraine in EU and NATO is the only way for us to feel safe — Emine Dzhaparova

The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that it is not possible to talk about world security while turning a blind eye to the war in Ukraine.

She made this statement at the Black Sea Security Conference.

“Ukraine is seeking membership in both the EU and NATO, as it is the only way that we can feel secure. We also believe that we can contribute both to the security and economic growth not only of the region, but also of the globe,” she said.

According to Emine Dzhaparova, after the occupation of Crimea, Ukraine learned several lessons — when evil is not stopped, it only grows. She pointed out that putin disregarded all arguments or conversations, and February 24 marked the beginning of yet another act of aggression, and today we face crimes against humanity and genocide on a terrible scale.

The next lesson for Ukraine and the world was the consequences of the decision at the NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008, when Ukraine and Georgia were not given the “green light” to join the Alliance, and within a few months the Kremlin attacked Sakartvelo.

“This indicates a lack of strategic vision. What is the future? I believe that after this vision it’s crucial to have coordination platforms that will develop certain and concrete acts, which we could put in comprehensive papers, so we could use this paper for our work when talking about security,” she said.
