Tsiklon unable to fulfill its functions – Dmytro Pletenchuk
The Tsiklon corvette, which russia deployed in the Black Sea, had not passed the necessary tests, it is not capable of performing its functions and will not take part in sea battles.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, Spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“This is an ordinary small corvette, serially produced, river-sea and littoral zone vessel, it is in fact a sea platform for carrying cruise missiles – this is its only task. The rest of its standard weapons are, roughly speaking, intended only for the defense of this ship. That is, it will not take part in sea battles. In fact, it is just a platform that should go out into the sea, launch its 8 missiles, which have a range of about 2,000 kilometers, and hide back. This is its only functionality. But even taking into account the fact that this is its only function, it is currently incapable of it. This is the last ship they built — in all senses, hopefully — in our temporarily occupied Crimea. And it did not pass state inspection for launching missiles, and despite the fact that it has been in service for half a year, it has not launched any,” Dmytro Pletenchuk explained.
