This war constitutes a direct assault against the principles and norms that the international community has struggled for decades to establish – Stefan Dimitrov

The russian aggression undermined the international security system and shook the existing world order.

Stefan Dimitrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. Made this statement during the Second Black Sea Security Conference.

“For more than two years, the world has been witnessing something unthinkable in the mind of the contemporary generation. A full-scale war that constitutes a direct assault against the principles and norms that the international community has struggled for decades to establish and protect. The russian invasion of Ukraine has undermined the international security system and shaken the core of the international legal order. It has also brought about major changes in how we assess our policies and objectives on national and regional level, but also globally,” he noted.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister emphasized that death and suffering happening in Ukraine today are unthinkable in world history. And today, the Bulgarian people express their full support to those in danger and in trouble.

“We will carry on further with our humanitarian assistance to all those affected by the war, including our friendly hospitality. We’ll continue to devote special attention and care to our brothers and sisters of Bulgarian origin in the regions of Kherson and Odesa and elsewhere in the zone of hostilities. Cessation of the bloodshed and durable peace settlement remain our top priority. We are resolved to providing support to Ukraine to enable it to achieve a just and sustainable peace. In this context, we welcome Switzerland’s initiative to convene the First Peace Summit in June on the basis of President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula. We expect the Peace Summit to set the right platform for future negotiations with russia based on a clear road map as well as on the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law,” said Stefan Dimitrov.
