The situation is quite alarming – Hryhorii Plachkov on the latest developments at ZNPP

According to the latest information, it is known that the fifth power unit, in a hot shutdown, is now being put into a cold shutdown state. At the same time, the occupants and occupation plant’s management have already begun to place the fourth power unit in the hot shutdown state. Such a change violates all valid licenses for the fourth and fifth power units. And given the situation at Zaporizhia NPP, these challenges are pretty severe. 

It was emphasized by Hryhorii Plachkov, Head of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation (2017–2021), during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

He expressed the opinion that by making changes, the occupiers are trying to adjust the power units to conduct repairs at the fifth power unit.

In addition, he emphasized that the psychological state of the Ukrainian personnel at the plant is quite serious.

“There are reports that some strangers personnel from other nuclear power plants of the aggressor country have been brought in, and our personnel are being mocked for disobeying to switch Zaporizhia NPP units to different states. That is why the situation is quite difficult and quite alarming,” he said.

According to Hryhorii Plachkov, such actions may result in unplanned events. The personnel brought by the occupiers are unlicensed and have not been trained.

“Therefore, the actions of the personnel that do not meet the licensing parameters may cause some damage at the fourth or fifth power unit,” he added.
