The purpose of the law on English functioning as the language of international communication is to make it more widely used as the second everyday language of communication — Tkachenko

Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform held the presentation of the National ecosystem for studying and testing within the drafting of a law on the functioning of English as a language of international communication. The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine representatives stressed the importance of knowledge and the widespread use of English in Ukraine.

“The law’s primary objective is to improve English language proficiency, to make it more widely used in Ukraine and, indeed, the second in common use, as it is in many European countries. English is the most widely spoken language, the language of international communication, the language of business, the language of new opportunities, and education in particular. In my opinion, English language skills and its widespread use will gradually bring us closer to civilization, to our partners, enhancing our capabilities to form various kinds of connections, from training to military partnerships related to communication with our allies,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

“Integration of Ukrainian education into the European educational space requires a significant foreign languages skills improvement, English first of all. The Ministry of Education must ensure that both students and scientific and pedagogical staff learn English. This mission is currently being implemented through both institutes of postgraduate pedagogical education and a network of Ukrainian educational hubs where we will conduct English language training. Its activity will be aimed not only to deepen and improve the skills of philology teachers but also non-philology teachers so that they can also introduce elements of bilingual education,” — Oleh Yeresko, Director General of the Directorate of Preschool, School, Extracurricular and Inclusive Education said.
