The first part of the documentary “Battle for Mykolaiv” was shown in Odesa

The idea to make a film appeared in December 2022 from the team “Suspilne Mykolaiv”. The Odesa premiere took place at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

As the authors of the project say, firstly they wanted to show how exactly Mykolaiv survived in those times. “Mykolaiv is the fortress of southern Ukraine. The whole of Ukraine watched its fate, but many people do not know how the city survived, what the townspeople experienced. And in the film we wanted to show what happened from the beginning of the invasion. Many were mistaken when they thought that Mykolaiv would not stand up,” Valentina Hurova, correspondent for “Suspilne Mykolaiv”, – said.

As noted by Victoria Andrushkiv, line producer of “Suspilne Mykolaiv”, the most difficult thing during the work on the film was to agree with the speakers, as well as to find the first shots of the shelling of the city. “No one was sitting by the window with a phone, because no one knew that the Russians would attack. In neighboring villages, people shot videos of the first attacks, but then deleted them for security reasons,” – Andrushkiv said.

Kateryna Lysyuk, the producer of the “Suspilne Mykolaiv” branch, said that the main goal was also to show that Mykolaiv persisted “despite the idea that it is a pro-russian city.” “When we edited the video, sometimes we cried, sometimes we laughed. There were many emotions and I would like to share these emotions,” – Lysyuk added.

Oleksandra Predushchenko, the editor-in-chief of the “Suspilne Mykolaiv” information content bureau, noted that now the team of authors is thinking about making the second part of the film.
