Repair crews have to choose between substation for 30 buildings or 3, so power supply can be restored unevenly — Kharchenko

Many Ukrainians are currently complaining that they have no electricity, while power has already been restored in neighboring houses. Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director at the Energy Industry Research Center explained why this situation is developing during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“The breakdowns caused by drones and missiles are one aspect. Another aspect is the large number of minor damages and accidents that occur due to constant disruptions in the system. Substations, including those responsible for the maintenance of 5-10-12 houses, begin to fail, stop working. Many people complain that everything around is lit up, but it is dark in their place. It’s dark because something happened at the substation, and the repair crews can’t get everywhere at the same time. When deciding whether to repair something that powers 30 houses versus a substation that powers three houses, the choice is often made in favor of the one where more people can be connected. Therefore, there are certain situations when people really suffer. I think that within today and tomorrow such situations in Kyiv and the region will be solved in general: the repair crews will arrive and fix it,” — Kharchenko said.
