Bulgaria has facilities for the production of ammunition for the needs of the Armed Forces. It’s up to the government now – ex-Minister of Defense of Bulgaria

These companies are both private and state-owned. Velizar Shalamanov, ex-Minister of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria and head of the NATO Communication and Information Organization, said this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.

He noted that there are two state-owned companies located in the city of Sopot and the city of Kostenets, which are ready to work for Ukrainian defense.

“Now all these capacities are available. And it is necessary to talk about the practical measures that Bulgarian government will realize within the framework of the mandate to help Ukraine. It was given by the parliament, which allowed to expand the production capacities in order to respond to the high demand for such types of weapons. There are powers to support Ukraine, but it depends on the government how to dispose of them,” – Velizar Shalamanov said.

He also added that there are private companies in Bulgaria, and the ex-minister expects them to become more active now, because they are interested in cooperation not only with Ukraine, but also with Poland or the USA.

“I cannot tell about the nature of the work of these companies now, but I can assure you that there are private companies in Bulgaria that have production facilities and are interested in further cooperation within the framework of NATO, the EU and support for Ukraine,” – Shalamanov added.
