State Border Guard Service detains over 11,000 illegal border crossers within one year — Andrii Demchenko
There has been no significant decrease in attempts to illegally cross the border. Border guards detain about 20 people trying to violate the border and leave Ukraine every day. In total, more than 11,000 illegal border crossers have been detained outside checkpoints, since February 24, 2022.
Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
According to him, attempts at illegal crossing are being committed both in the “green” zone of the border, that is, outside the checkpoints, and directly at the checkpoints as well.
“In particular, as before, the most attempts to illegally cross the border in the “green” zone are recorded at the border with Romania and Moldova. In total, since February 24, more than 11,000 such illegal border crossers have been detained outside checkpoints. Another 4,200 people were detained at checkpoints while trying to leave with forged documents. Most of these cases happened on the border with Hungary and Poland.”
In order to reduce the attempts to commit these offenses, the State Border Guard Service, in cooperation with other security agencies, is taking all necessary measures, including uncovering the groups engaged in the illegal movement of people across the border.
“Currently, law enforcement agencies have initiated more than 2,000 criminal proceedings into the illegal crossing of the border. More than 160 criminal groups that were organizing illegal movement of citizens, have also been stopped.”
