Since start of year, border crossing denied to about 4,300 people who use “Path” system – Andrii Demchenko

Due to the attempted violations and abuses with regard to the “Path” system, the border guards strengthened the vetting and confirmation process for departure.

Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“If our inspectors see abuse, or a person, for example, does not know where he is going, which is already strange, or if a driver is registered in the system, but such a person does not have a driver’s license, then such persons are denied to cross the state border. And since the beginning of the year, border crossing has been denied to about 4,300 people who claimed they were drivers from business entities, but could not cross the border due to violations,” said Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

According to Andrii Demchenko, abuses are often committed by business entities that have the right to economic activities related to international transportation, and that also have the opportunity to enter information about individuals into the “Path” system. According to Andrii Demchenko, private entrepreneurs are the most notorious abusers.

The Spokesperson noted that the data from inspections carried out jointly with law enforcement agencies showed that certain enterprises receive USD 3,000-7,000 for entering a person into the “Path” system.

“Therefore, at this moment, according to the information available to me, about 40 licensees who had the right to enter information into the “Path” system were temporarily deprived of the right to enter information into this system. About 60 criminal cases have also been initiated into such actions, and a number of persons have already received notices of suspicion with regards to committing a crime of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” he added.
