Secretary General of the Organisation of American States: The upcoming Ukraine-Latin America Summit should include security issues and countering Russian propaganda

Russia’s full-scale invasion has put the international community to the test – how will the post-World War II world order pass this test? And the answer is very clear: the whole world must work as hard as possible to strengthen it.

This statement was made by Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organisation of American States, during the Second Black Sea Security Conference.

“We have also said that the invasion was a threat to peace and security of the entire planet, including the Western Hemisphere, as we saw Russia making inroads among autocratic regimes in the Americas. and yet it is precisely in the Black Sea region where the “economic” war of aggression now continues against Ukraine and against the rest of the world. Russia disruption in navigation in the Black Sea its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative and its subsequent efforts to damage Ukraine`s port infrastructure and grain storage facilities have jeopardized food security on a global scale, starting of course with Ukraine,”

Luis Almagro noted that he welcomed the initiative of the Ukrainian government to organize the Ukraine-Latin America Summit 2024. The agenda of such an event should include issues of global security, human rights and democracy: “We can be allies in the areas of cyber security essential to counteract Russian disinformation and propaganda campaigns in both regions. The Americas were with you”
