Rapeseed and soybeans instead of corn and wheat. Farmers in the Lviv region increased the area under industrial crops due to difficulties with grain exports
Tetiana Hetman, Director of the Department of Agricultural Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration, told this at a briefing at the Ukraine-Lviv Media Center. According to her, Lviv farmers grow products in demand in the domestic and foreign markets. In particular, they are increasing the area under buckwheat and vegetables.
“Compared to last year, we recorded a 2.5-fold increase in the area under buckwheat, soybeans and rapeseed. Also, farmers are adding new vegetable crops to their acreage. For example, they plant more carrots and onions, which are not typical for the Lviv region,” said Tetiana Hetman, director of the Department of Agricultural Development at Lviv Regional State Administration.
At the same time, Lviv Industrial Agriculture is trying to support small farmers through government grant programs.
“The Lviv region is a record-breaking region for financing the regional agricultural sector. We have allocated almost UAH 34 million to support small agricultural producers. This money is intended to reimburse farmers for the cost of seeds and compensation for cattle growth. Already 37 business entities have taken advantage of this. There is also a state program “E.Robota” in the region, under which 11 Lviv enterprises received almost UAH 8 million in aid to purchase equipment and process raw materials,” said Tetiana Hetman, director of the Department of Agricultural Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
