“Over the holidays, Kyiv had electricity due to warm weather and reduced industrial activity, currently there is a shortage again and blackouts are in effect,” City State Administration

As of the morning of January 9, there are again power outages in the capital due to renewed shortages in the power grid. Mykola Povoroznyk, First Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“During the New Year holidays and at the beginning of the Christmas holidays, there were factors that resulted in a somewhat easier situation with the electricity. First of all, it was warm weather. There were some people who moved away, in fact it was a day off mode – the industrial infrastructure worked less. Therefore, we had enough power to, in fact, get by without outages. In the last few days, taking into account the decrease in temperature and the start of working days, blackouts have started again. There is a shortage of electricity, about 200,000 households were without power this morning. Heat and water supply, communication — everything works as usual, with the exception of high-rise buildings, where the supply of heat and water to the upper floors is temporarily stopped due to power outages.”
