Military expert: Ukraine needs 40 F-16 aircraft for effective work

Ukrainian pilots can be trained to fly these aircraft in 4 months, and such training is already underway. This was stated at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa by Ihor Romanenko, retired Lieutenant General, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2006-2010).

He noted that the F-16 is a Generation 4+ air platform that can use any NATO weapon. In addition, the aircraft can be used as both fighters and attack aircraft, which can hit both stationary targets and moving objects.

“The avionics and electronic equipment on the F-16 has been evolving and improving… I hope that we will be provided with the latest modification. For our air force to be effective, we need 3–4 squadrons – 40 aircraft. We need to train not only pilots but also airfield technicians, because the F-16 is more demanding in terms of airfield maintenance,” – the expert said.

He added that there are currently 4,500 F-16s of various modifications in the world.
