Law enforcers uncover 28 torture chambers in Kharkiv region
Of the 28 torture chambers discovered by law enforcement officers in Kharkiv region, 25 have already been thoroughly inspected. Everything found in them was already recorded. A number of documents, fingerprints and items with DNA of the detained people were confiscated as evidence. However, three more torture chambers are currently uninspected, as they remain under fire, due to their close proximity to the border.
Serhii Bolvinov, Head of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kharkiv oblast, made this statement during a discussion at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
According to him, the largest torture chambers were located in big cities, particularly Kupiansk, Izium, Balakliia, Vovchansk.
In addition, Serhii Bolvinov noted that the proceedings looking into the detention in torture chambers established that there were 227 victims.
“We are investigating 10 criminal offenses. Of course, we have registered more of them (proceedings – Ed.), and we are investigating these torture chambers together with the investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine, some proceedings are being looked into by the State Bureau of Investigation. In total, we have – and see – that 227 people have been recognized as victims under these proceedings. Unfortunately, we recorded that 13 of them had died due to being in these torture tortures. Four people are missing and it has been confirmed that four people are in captivity,” said Serhii Bolvinov.
