Individuals will be able to apply for housing compensation during martial law, within a year after and in some cases even later — Shuliak

Due to the limited state financial resources, compensation for the destroyed property will be paid first to natural persons and later to legal entities. Olena Shuliak, Chair of Sluha Narodu (Servant of the People) Party, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on State Building, Local Governance, Regional, and Urban Development made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“The compensation will cover housing destroyed primarily during the war. Applications will be accepted from citizens when martial law is imposed and within a year after its termination. But we understand that at the end of martial law, situations related to various destructions, mines, and demining may arise. Therefore, we have provided the possibility for those homeowners whose dwelling may fall under post-war destruction to be still compensated,” Shuliak said.

According to the party leader, when it comes to an apartment that is beyond repair or an apartment building that cannot be overhauled or restored, people could receive a ‘housing certificate’. The private sector could choose between the ‘housing certificate’ or earmarked money to be used for the purchase of construction materials or for construction work.
