In the Lviv region, the area of gardens has increased by 400 hectares over the past year
Almost half of the new plantings are blueberries and walnuts. The demand for these products is high, so more and more people are willing to grow them. The Lviv Department of Agro-Industrial Development has reported record demand for government loans for planting new gardens. We are talking about the “Your Garden” loan programme, which allows you to receive up to UAH 7 million for a garden of up to 25 hectares.
“There are 14.5 thousand hectares of berries and fruit plantations in the Lviv region. Of these, only 2,200 hectares are in the commercial sector. We mainly grow 50% of apples. The second place goes to stone fruits, followed by berries and nuts. The fruit segment is doing very well. The only thing we lack is a quick freezing line. So far, there are only 11 such lines in the region. More and more of the loans we help arrange are for processing and freezing. It will help us to export Ukrainian berries”, said Tetiana Hetman, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
Every year, up to 160 thousand tonnes of fruit are harvested in the Lviv region. The region is one of Ukraine’s five largest producers of fruit and berry products. However, the region still imports more fruit and vegetables than it exports.
