In 2023, border guards uncover 3,300 forged documents used by individuals to cross the border – State Border Guard Service

Over the past year, border guards successfully identified several thousand males attempting to unlawfully exit the country using forged documents.

Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“In 2023, the border guards, our inspectors, discovered 3,300 forged documents at the checkpoints. Men presented these documents for inspection, hoping that this would help them cross the border,” said Andrii Demchenko.

According to him, attempts to illegally cross the border continue. In fact, every day border guards continue to detain offenders both at checkpoints, where people try to use fake documents, and on the green section of the border, outside the checkpoints.

In addition, he said that comparing the statistics of illegal border crossings in 2022 and 2023, we can see a downward trend to attempt such an offense.

“However, the weather also affects this. Over the last period, in certain periods of time, we recorded a decrease in attempts to illegally cross the border through the green section. Instead, for example, attempts to leave with forged or falsified documents increased,” Andrii Demenko added.
