Ukraine Should Cease Diplomatic Relations with Iran If It Proves Tehran’s Supply of Weapons to russia — Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy
If Ukraine has evidence of military aid supplies from Iran to russia, this will lead to cessation of diplomatic relations with Tehran. Oleksandr Merezhko, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, made this statement during the briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“First of all, we need to find solid evidence, because Iran denies that. This is the information we receive, including from open sources, including The Washington Post article indicating that the Iranian authorities can supply missiles to Russia. There is information that the so-called “Guardians of the Islamic Revolution”, that is, in fact, Iranian military personnel are on the territory of the occupied Crimea. All this shows that Iran, one can say, actually enters a state of war against Ukraine… If this information is confirmed, we should break off diplomatic relations with Iran,” Oleksandr Merezhko believes.
Moreover, in his opinion, Ukraine may consider recognition of Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, as some states, in particular, the United States, have already done. And, as a result, seek assistance from states that have unfriendly relations with Tehran.
“We may also raise the issue of freezing and forfeiture of Iranian property in order to compensate ourselves for the losses and damage resulting from the use of Iranian drones. We may turn, for example, to Israel with a request to strengthen support and even provide appropriate weapons,” Oleksandr Merezhko said.
