Four subjects in four hours and metal detector tests: what innovations in the NMT await eleventh-graders in 2024

In 2024, the National Multi-subject Test (NMT) involves four subjects: three compulsory and one optional. Along with Ukrainian language and mathematics, the history of Ukraine is now a compulsory subject. In addition, the optional subjects list has increased. Thus, in 2024, applicants will be able to choose a separate test in Ukrainian literature, and geography will be available again as an optional subject. Testing is planned to be conducted in one day for four hours.

Tetiana Vakulenko, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment made this announcement, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

She noted that the content of the NMT tasks will correspond to the External independent testing programs, which have been relevant for several years in a row. Accordingly, she emphasized, one should not expect the tests to become more complicated or new topics to appear.

The test structure implies a total of four hours (2 hours of work on two tests, a break, and another 2 hours of work on the tests).

In addition, in 2024, testing is going to be held earlier. While in 2023 it took place in June and July, in 2024 the testing is expected to start in May.

For participants, the testing will take place on the same day. That is, a participant will be able to receive four results for admission in one assessment session.

NMT takers will be tested in temporary examination centers on the premises of educational institutions. In the event of an air raid, all participants will go to the shelter and continue to work with the tests only after the air raid is over.

At the same time, it is planned to use metal detectors to allow participants to enter the testing rooms in temporary exam centers. This is in particular since in previous years there have been cases of participants using smartphones phones during the NMT.
