Four new strains of influenza are expected this autumn. Viruses are dangerous, so it is worth preparing for the seasonal peak of the disease
Doctors remind us that the best way to avoid severe disease is vaccination. The first vaccines for this year’s epidemic season, for now from one producer, have already been delivered to the Lviv region. But over time, there will be more of them. And the excitement about vaccines these days will gradually subside. Natalia Ivanchenko, General Director of the Lviv Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, spoke about vaccination and seasonal diseases this autumn at the Ukraine-Lviv Media Center.
“You should be vaccinated annually because last year’s vaccination does not protect against the flu. Vaccinations provide guaranteed protection for six months, after which the level of protection decreases. A year later, it disappears completely. Even if you have never had a vaccine, do not be afraid. Influenza vaccines have one of the highest safety profiles. And at the same time, they are highly effective,” explains Natalia Ivanchenko, General Director of the Lviv Regional Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The risk group includes the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and representatives of professions that actively contact many people: doctors, teachers, public transport drivers, etc. Doctors also urge people to stay home when the disease symptoms appear so as not to spread the virus. And consult with your general practitioner remotely about treatment.
