Even in the event of shelling, there will be no devastating power cuts and blackouts – Oleksandr Kharchenko

There will be electricity supply limits in winter, but not as much as last winter. There won’t be devastating blackouts lasting several days, but reasonable electricity usage limits are possible.

It was emphasized by Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director at the Energy Industry Research Center, during a discussion at the country’s main discussion platform, BrainHub, at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

In particular, he explained that rapid response scenarios have been developed, and the competent mobile repair teams are well-equipped and trained.

“We know what to do, and the prompt response will be much better than it was when it all started, when the shelling was a new thing, and we did not know what it would be like, what would happen, how to respond. Now, we are much better prepared with everything we need. And I am sure that even in the event of shelling, there will be no devastating power cuts, no total blackout, there will be reasonable blackouts, mostly predictable, maybe the electricity supply to be out for every 4 hours, but there will more or less precise schedule to know more exactly when and how the outages will happen,” he added.

Despite the fact that, according to Mr. Kharchenko, the situation is complicated, there will be no catastrophic power supply restrictions.

“The situation is really objectively difficult. On the one hand, I appreciate the work that has been done as fantastic, but on the other hand, I realize that it is absolutely insufficient to enter the season. Will there be difficulties? Yes, there will be. Will there be supply limits? I’m sure there will be, judging by the real-life experience, there will be. Will they be devastating? Will they last for two or three days? I’m sure not,” he said.

BrainHub is the country’s main discussion platform created by the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform. It brings together experts from the state and civil society sectors. BrainHub hosts intellectual discussions around the issues of the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. It’s the birthplace of the best ideas that will become the foundation for the road map of Ukraine’s reconstruction in all sectors: economy, infrastructure, education, agriculture, security, digital, etc.
