Despite tourist season, border guards do not observe sharp increase in passenger traffic – State Border Guard Service

Despite the tourist season, which traditionally falls on winter and summer, border guards do not observe a sharp increase in passenger traffic, as was the case before the full-scale invasion. Currently, there is no clear advantage in numbers for neither entry nor exit at the borders.

Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“Perhaps, in the summer months, passenger traffic will increase somewhat, but at this moment we do not observe a sharp or gradual increase in passenger traffic. On average, about 85,000 people cross the border in both directions per day, on weekdays. On the weekend or before the weekend, the number of people crossing the border can reach 100,000 people in both directions. But there is neither an exit nor an entry advantage. In terms of percentage, the passenger flow fluctuates at 50:50,” explained Andrii Demchenko.

At the same time, the Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that within five months of this year, the border guards have processed a total of about 13 million people at the state border, of which 11.1 million are citizens of Ukraine. In general, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 42.5 million people have been processed by inspectors at the border.

Andrii Demchenko also said that there was no rapid increase in citizens’ exiting the state after the Easter holidays.
