Despite decline in spring freshet, red level of danger declared in some regions of Ukraine due to possible flooding — Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center

As of the morning of April 27, there is a decline in spring freshet, but the situation is maintained under control with help of the Dnipro reservoir cascade.Illia Perevozchykov, Head of the Hydrological Forecasts Department at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.”Therefore, it is because of this that the highest, red level of danger has been declared in Cherkasy region, where flooding of floodplain and low-lying areas is likely to cause negative consequences of a mass nature. An orange level of danger has also been declared in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions,” he said.According to the representative of Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the water level is rising in Kyiv today because of the operation of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP).”As for Kyiv, as of today, we are recording an increase in the water level. But this is caused by the work of the Kyiv HPP. Therefore, Kyivans and residents of the region should not worry about this, because the crest of spring floods on the Dnipro above Kyiv took place on April 17. Therefore, we are currently observing a steady decline in the areas with natural flow.”
