Border protests pose problem not only to carriers, but to entire economy as well

In addition to loss of money caused by trucks stuck at the border due to the protest of Polish truckers, the economy of the country may face some significant problems in the future.

Volodymyr Balin, Vice President of the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“If we talk about the lost profit, then this is EUR 300-350 per day that a vehicle could have earned during normal operation. All the extra inactive time is underearned money,” he explained.

At the same time, Volodymyr Balin noted that due to protests and problems with logistics, manufacturers and carriers will suffer losses in the future, and this may significantly affect the country’s economy.

“If we talk about the future, which is what our carriers are talking about today, because they export and transport Ukraine’s products. They take them to Old Europe, far away, and the consumers of these goods tell them that they are looking for manufacturers in other countries, in particular in Poland. Why? Because the logistics are clear – two days and the goods are already delivered. From Ukraine, the logistics are unclear, queuing for 10 days or more, plus actually getting there is a problem. That is, it is a problem for the entire economy, it is a problem for our producers, who will not be able to conclude an agreement for the upcoming years. And accordingly, the problem for carriers, because we will not have anything to transport. Therefore, the situation is critical from a strategic point of view,” Volodymyr Balin emphasized.
