12:00 PM | KYIV | – Yaroslava Lopatina, Country Program Director for AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) in Ukraine (in person); | Discussion entitled: “Overall situation with HIV infection in Ukraine, reasons for late detection and prevention” Topics of focus: – The overall situation with HIV in Ukraine, in which regions the situation is the most difficult; – Reasons for late detection of HIV infection in the country: the presentation of the report; – Prevention of HIV infection; Why this is interesting: December 1 is World AIDS Day. Today, Ukraine is among the top countries in Europe in terms of the number of people living with HIV (PLHIV). Thus, according to the Center for Public Health, there are about 257,000 PLHIVs in our country. However, it is important not only to record general statistics, but also to pay attention to the fact that only 69% of PLHIVs know their status and can control their disease. Others, almost a third, continue to endanger themselves and those around them due to ignorance. The war only further complicates the problem of fighting the HIV epidemic. Therefore, it is especially important to use protection against HIV and get tested. |
