Almost 72,000 Fires Have Occurred in Ukraine Since the Beginning of the Year, More Than a Thousand People Have Died

71,761 fires have occurred in Ukraine since the beginning of the year; 1,162 people have died and 1,287 have been injured. Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, made this statement during the briefing in Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“If we take the share of the residential sector, it is about 40% of fires. In addition, due to shelling by russians, the number of fires on industrial enterprises and agricultural land has increased this year,” Oleksandr Khorunzhyi said.

According to Svitlana Vodolaha, Press Secretary of Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Kyiv city, fires are caused by both electrical appliances issues and gas accessories explosions. Therefore, the State Emergency Service urges the citizens to be especially cautious.

“If you leave your home, please turn off all electrical appliances; if you use gas equipment or open fire, make sure that everything is turned off. If you are at home and power outage occurs, please turn off electrical appliances, especially heating equipment and electric stoves,” Svitlana Vodolaha, Press Secretary of Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Kyiv city, explained.
