African leaders came to Ukraine not for peace, but for benefits – African expert
The mediation mission of the presidents of South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, Comoros, as well as representatives of the governments of Uganda and Egypt has not yet yielded any results. This opinion was expressed by Iryna Filatova, Africanist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Emeritus at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
“The goal of this mission was not peace. African countries wanted to get something for themselves. For example, South Africa wants to restore investor confidence and rebuild relations with Western states with which it trades. South Africa says it is neutral, but it is pro-Russian, even though they officially declare their neutral status,” – Iryna Filatova noted.
Egypt’s goal was to get grain from Russia and Ukraine, as well as fertilizers.
“Egypt was not interested in global countries, they are not interested in whether Ukraine will exist. Also, a lot of African countries do not understand what is at stake in this war, they are not interested in it. For them, this war is taking place somewhere in Europe, although African countries are also suffering because of it,” – the expert noted.
