10-15 million tons of grain need alternative storage mechanisms — Deputy Head of Ukrainian Agrarian Council
Currently, 10-15 million tons of grain need alternative storage mechanisms. This is due to the fact that a significant part of the storage systems are either destroyed or temporarily occupied. Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk spoke about it at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“In this context, we are currently working on alternative grain storage mechanisms. Including such technologies as polymer sleeves. And now the Ukrainian Agrarian Council is proactively working with the ministry to develop a mechanism for importing these additional tools into Ukraine, which would be an alternative to those large silo barrels that people are used to seeing along the roads,” — Denys Marchuk said.
Regarding exports, Marchuk said, among other things, that Ukraine is currently paying a lot of attention to negotiations with Poland on increasing the number of railroad cars on their side that would be able to accept Ukrainian products.
“We still have hope for the expansion of traffic, specifically, via large trucks. Because today the number of checkpoints on the border, which would allow for the opportunity to move in this direction, is increasing. Today we are talking about opening (new checkpoints) not only with Poland, but also with Slovakia. And I think this will also lead to an additional tonnage that we will be able to add to our overall export,” — Denys Marchuk said.
