Zaporizhia Oblast plans to build 30 MW of cogeneration capacity to ensure water and heat supply in case of power outages
The Zaporizhia Oblast is making efforts to ensure uninterrupted water and heat supply in case of power outages and plans to build 30 MW of cogeneration capacity for this purpose.
This was announced by Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhia Oblast Military Administration, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Our goal is to create more backup systems for water and heat supply during power outages. We are pursuing several directions. The first and most important is to build 30 MW of cogeneration capacity with our partners so that we can continue to provide water and heat in the event of a blackout. With the help of our partners, we have already completed the bidding process for six cogeneration units, and in the coming days we will complete the bidding process for eight more units. We will then be able to install and use them in the Zaporizhia Oblast,” he said.
In addition, Fedorov noted that USAID has provided solid fuel boilers for health facilities. These have already been installed and commissioned, including 12 solid fuel and pellet boilers that can provide heating to hospitals during power outages.
Nine more boilers have been transferred to municipalities and are expected to be installed by the end of the year to provide back-up heating to social institutions.
International partners are also expected to provide high-capacity diesel generators, totaling about 5 MW, for two water pumping stations, DVS-1 and DVS-2, to ensure backup water supply for the entire Zaporizhia Oblast.
One of the current challenges being addressed is the emergency backup of healthcare and educational institutions.
