Yurii Ihnat explained why it is nighttime when the enemy missile attacks hit Ukraine

According to statistics, Russia resorts to night missile attacks on Ukraine because it complicates the work of air defense systems.

Yurii Ihnat, Spokesperson of the Air Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, made the relevant report at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“Hence that’s why the enemy mostly launched overnight attacks, but sometimes Russia strikes Ukraine in daylight, thus making it more difficult to destroy air targets without visual reference to them,” he explained.

At the same time, Yurii Ihnat noted wherein lies the difficulty when fighting the enemy-launched Shaheds targeting Ukraine.

“It is difficult to deal with such targets as Shaheds as these are kamikaze drones, barge munitions, which are designed so that it is difficult to shoot them down. It purposely flies from different directions and different routes to make it harder for our air defense system. Each Shaheds is programmed to move along a particular route, which complicates the work of air defense and distracts the anti-aircraft gunners and other specialists shooting down these UAVs,” he added.

“Other Defense Forces service branches often work with Shahed as well. Their air defense includes large-caliber machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, and man-portable air defense systems. Everything we have in our arsenal works for the country’s defense.”

According to Yurii Ihnat, fighter jets also play the role of air power capability to dominate the skies. However, he noted that if provided with F-16s instead of MIG-29s fighters, Ukraine’s defense action effectiveness would increase many times.
