With the onset of extreme cold in Ukraine, incidents of fires on the rise
In just one day, 153 fires were recorded in Ukraine.
Oleksandr Khorunzhyy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Due to freezing temperatures over the last couple of days, the number of fires has increased since the beginning of the year. People began to actively use stove heating, heating devices, fireplaces, etc. We recorded 153 fires in one day. If we take this day in 2023, then there were 132 incidents. Since the beginning of 2024, we have recorded 934 fires according to the latest data. In 2023, during the same period at the beginning of the year, we recorded 838 fires, which means there is an increase of 11.5%,” said the Press Officer of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to him, 56 people have died in fires since the beginning of the year. Last year, 41 people died in this period. At the same time, the number of victims has decreased – 35 people this year, against 36 last year.
