Ukrainian Orthodox Church has no relation to Moscow Patriarchate due to “terrible position of the patriarch” – UOC representative

This statement was made at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa by Archpriest Maximian Pogorelovsky of the Odesa Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, commenting on the Russian attack on June 23, which resulted in significant damage to the Transfiguration Cathedral.

“We have nothing to do with them. We had a relationship before the war, but only a spiritual one, like any Orthodox Church. Today we have no relation or even communication with them because of the terrible position of the patriarch and some representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. On February 24, the name of Patriarch Kirill was no longer mentioned not only in the Odesa diocese, but throughout the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Even in prayers. We only mention our blessed Metropolitan Onufriy in our services,” – the priest said.

He also said that priests who remained in the occupied territories are forbidden to mention the name of Onufriy.
