Ukraine to expand circle of allied countries and potential allies in order to strengthen anti-russian coalition in the world this year — Oleksandr Merezhko
Oleksandr Merezhko, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation spoke about the countries that are already reliable allies of Ukraine, and the states that can potentially support our country at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“There are countries, I call them the Big Six, which are our closest friends, allies, and partners that do not need to be convinced. These are the United States, the UK, the Baltic countries, and Poland. We can always count on them. But aid from other countries must be strengthened. First of all, (we need to) focus on the countries that can really provide more help, (countries) which are the economic leaders of Europe, namely Germany and France. We must strengthen cooperation with them and convince them to provide as much military aid as possible. And we must insist that this assistance be provided in a timely manner,” — Merezhko said.
“The Netherlands is a promising country in terms of creating a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression. It is necessary to ensure that it is created this year. It is necessary to work with countries from other regions, with African countries, where there are many countries that vote for resolutions in support of our territorial integrity and sovereignty in the UN. We need to develop relations with them, as well as with those who do not support us diplomatically in the UN. In Latin America, I would pay attention to Brazil: cooperation with this country should be strengthened. There is, let’s say, a new old president, but this gives us the opportunity to start our relations from scratch and convince them to support Ukraine, not russia. We will expand the circle of countries that are our allies and expand the circle of our potential allies in order to strengthen the anti-russian coalition in the world,” — Merezhko.
