Ukraine imposes tough sanctions on russian nuclear industry due to events at Zaporizhia and Chornobyl NPPs; list includes individuals — Plachkov

Ukraine has recently taken several steps in the nuclear industry that experts had expected. Hryhorii Plachkov, Head of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation (2017–2021), made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“The State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation made changes regarding power units 3 to 6, at certain levels and in certain conditions they are allowed to operate. Ukraine introduced sanctions against the russian nuclear industry, which are quite tough. This is related to what is happening at Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, and to russia’s actions related to the seizure of Chornobyl nuclear power plant. Sanctions have been imposed by Ukraine on individuals associated with the russian industry,” — Plachkov said.

According to the expert, Zaporizhia NPP remains under the occupation, and all 6 power units remain in cold shutdown. Currently, the russians are trying to transfer Ukrainian licensed personnel to the russian operating organization.
