Traffic currently blocked and complicated at three border checkpoints in Romania – State Border Guard Service
Recently freight vehicles traffic has been blocked or partially complicated along the border with Romania. Before yesterday, there had been blockages in two directions, as of now – it’s already happening in three locations.
Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Since Saturday, there has been a blockade on the way to the Porubne checkpoint – that’s a town on the Ukrainian side, on the Romanian side it is the Siret checkpoint. The protestors involved in this blockade – the representatives of the agricultural sector – usually started at lunch and finished in the evening. This is how it happened on Saturday and on Sunday. Later another location was added, the Krasnoilsk checkpoint. And as of this morning, (traffic – Ed.) in these two locations is in fact blocked around the clock. There have been reports of significant difficulties for vehicle travel. At the same time, it should be understood that in the direction of the Krasnoilsk checkpoint only empty freight vehicles can cross the border. On the other hand, trucks transporting goods both towards Romania and Ukraine can go through the Porubne checkpoint,” explained Andrii Demchenko.
In addition, he added that today, after 10:30 AM, the way toward the Diakove checkpoint was blocked on the territory of Romania.
“Despite the fact that at the moment we can still observe some movement from Romania to Ukraine, there is practically no traffic from Ukraine to Romania,” he said.
According to Andrii Demchenko, yesterday it was observed that the Romanian side began to let up to 10 cargo vehicles per hour towards Ukraine at the Porubne checkpoint. He noted that despite complications there is still some movement at the border.
