To mark the Defenders of Ukraine Day, pupils will plant Alleys of Memory on school grounds

On 29 September, at 9 am., on the eve of the Defenders of Ukraine Day, children and teachers from 122 schools across Ukraine will plant the Alleys of Memory of Heroes. The viburnum bushes will symbolise the deceased soldiers involved in this school. The alleys should become a place of fond memories and support for those experiencing the grief of loss.

The Memorial Memory Platform, which has been preserving the memory of those killed in the war since March 2022, initiated the campaign. The funds for the project came from a crowdfunding campaign.

“It was very significant for us that Ukrainians could become co-creators of this event. That’s why we decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign. It was our first experience of this kind. Initially, we wanted to raise 72 thousand and plant Alleys in 50 educational institutions. However, we managed to raise this amount in just one week! As a result, we will plant Alleys in 122 schools and honour 1,144 Heroes. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who decided to support the idea,” says Anastasia Abramets, editor-in-chief of the Memorial Platform.

Nova Poshta covers logistics costs at its own expense. Some schools purchased saplings on their own or with the help of philanthropists to create more Alleys of Memory of Heroes in Ukraine.

In total, more than 250 schools applied to participate. To find out the list of educational institutions where the campaign will take place in the Ukrainian cities, please contact:
