There is a trend towards warm winters in Ukraine, but short-term snowfalls and cold weather can still happen

Currently, there is a general trend that cold periods are becoming shorter and shorter in Ukraine. There are fewer and fewer cold days than warm days in the winter period.

Natalia Ptukha, Head of the Media Communication Department of Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“Now, compared to the climate normal, the trend is towards warm winters, just like the previous ones. This absolutely does not exclude the fact that there may be cold surges, there may be snowfalls, cyclones coming from the south, from the southwest. This is a classic situation for the territory of Ukraine in terms of snowfalls, but they are now shorter. As we can see, there are already such “swings” this week – both in terms of temperature, atmospheric pressure, and precipitation,” Natalia Ptukha explained.
