The war in Ukraine is changing Kazakhstan’s society to a great extent – volunteer from Astana
Most of the population who have a civic position and are interested in politics are on the side of Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by Assyl Turgayev, a volunteer from Kazakhstan, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Odesa.
He said that from the first days of the war, social media in Kazakhstan began to call for support for Ukraine.
“In my opinion, the vast majority of people with a civic position are now on the side of Ukraine and international law. This is the right thing to do, simply as a human being. Those who were sympathetic to Russia were active in the first month, but when the invaders were driven out of northern Ukraine, they fell silent,” – Turgayev said.
He noted that it is mostly young people who support Ukraine, but it cannot be said that all older people who grew up in the USSR support the aggressor.
“What is happening now in Ukraine is changing our society to a great extent. It raises the issue of national identity, makes us raise our heads and look around – who we are and what we are striving for,” – the volunteer added.
