The recovery of the energy sector is ongoing, with thermal power generation facing the most challenging situation – Oleksandr Kharchenko

Ukraine has lost significant power generation capacity, so the situation in the energy sector remains difficult. Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Center for Energy Research, made these remarks during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center.

“The process of restoring this capacity is ongoing. The nuclear sector is the easiest—scheduled maintenance is underway there. The schedule is designed to bring the capacity back online from maintenance in July-August. The situation with thermal power generation is difficult because significant capacity has been lost; restoration is proceeding on a tight schedule, but it is not enough to yield quick results. Large hydroelectric power plants are being restored,” the expert noted.

According to him, the most difficult situation remains in regions with high electricity consumption—Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Kharkiv.
