russian Propaganda Massively Uses Trained Bots Undistinguishable from Humans Until the Fifth Comment – Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council

The russian propaganda machine uses automated software to distort the information situation in Ukraine. Maryna Vorotyntseva, Senior Analyst at the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, told this during the briefing at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.

“Not people are currently working against us, but, to a large extent, the automated software which is engaged in messages dispersing and producing. We can observe such trained bots that can discuss with a real user, and until the fifth comment, you can’t identify that you are communicating with artificial intelligence, with a machine. The main goal of the russian propaganda and this machine is to completely imitate the social discussion in Ukraine. Thus, the information situation and social process are completely distorted. In 2014, they did this in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions using VKontakte and Odnoklassniki, using the russian media, and TV channels. They completely turned off Ukraine there and made their own closed world of non-existent reality. We call it information terrorism,” Maryna Vorotyntseva explained.
